Have you ever thought of trying something new with your camera? Night time photography may be something new to you and a camping tripmay be the perfect time to try it out. Get a sleeping bag that is warm enough. This is important. Even if you go camping in the summertime, nights can get very cold out in the wild. There are sleeping bags promising protection from varying cold temperatures; it is a good idea to opt for as low a temperature protection as you can find in your sleeping bag.
If you have the time, try different settings on the camera such as shutter speed to see what works the best for you. You can capture moments that happen in a blip or blur larger time periods together, this latter tip works well with flowing water. The quicker the subject of your photo is moving, the faster your shutter speed needs to be and vice versa. And of course, if you are trying night time photography, you will need to keep your shutter open for long periods. You can get amazing shots like this.

Make sure you plan out your route in advance of your trip. Look to see if there are any special places that you can stop at along the way, especially if you want to take photographs. It will make the drive much more enjoyable and you may have a lot of fun in the process. Granted, you may need to get to your destination quickly, but if you have time, taking the scenic route is worth it.

Make sure you have cover in case of rain. When you’re out in the woods, a rainstorm can be wet, cold and uncomfortable. Make sure you have some kind of protection against the rain, whether it be a tent, cabin or lean-to. In a pinch, you can use a garbage bag as a poncho! You will need protection for any camera you are carrying too.
